Chapter 35
Quality Control in Rubber Molding

In rubber molding, consistency isn’t luck.

It’s engineered, through process, people and precision.

Once a compound has passed lab validation, real-world quality control begins. And it doesn’t stop until the part is boxed, labeled and shipped.

It starts at the press.

In manual molding, every part is inspected as it comes out, checked for excess flash, voids or cure defects.

In automated lines, samples are measured at defined intervals. Dimensions, hardness and weight are verified against specification, while temperature, pressure and cure time are monitored in real time. If anything drifts, it’s corrected immediately, before defects can spread.

After molding comes deflashing and with it, the next inspection.

Under controlled lighting, operators examine parts one by one, checking trim quality and surface appearance.

But in high-volume or high-precision production, human eyes aren’t enough.

Automated vision systems take over, cameras scanning every part, 360 degrees, for flash, voids or surface irregularities. Some systems use pattern recognition and adaptive algorithms, detecting shifts invisible to the human eye.

This isn’t just detection.
It’s traceability.

Each part is linked to a digital record: material batch, mold cavity, press, cycle parameters, operator and inspection results. A complete history that supports accountability, compliance and confidence, long after the part has left the factory.

And behind it all stand structured quality systems, covering automotive, medical, industrial and environmental requirements, that define how processes are controlled, audited and continuously improved.

In rubber molding, quality isn’t added at the end. It’s built in from the beginning, measured in microns, tested under pressure and trusted in every application.
